1:1 Dietetics Therapy Sessions

Careful food choices provide the appropriate nourishment for your infant, child or teenager’s growing body and brain, nurturing their physical, social and psychological development.

Our dietitian is trained in Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Feeding Therapy, and implements this approach with a combination of play based and educational elements during sessions. We provide patient centred care using easy-to-understand (and implement) advice and support to achieve a balanced diet based on internationally recognised health guidelines and the latest scientific research.

Therapy sessions take place in our Hub in Toowong, in the home environment or through telehealth. We accept Medicare, NDIS and private health rebates.

Why might your child need to see a Dietitian?

Food nourishes at every age and is particularly important between infancy and adolescence. Careful food choices help to nourish a child’s growing body and brain while a healthy diet also supports their social and psychological development.

There is a complex and dynamic relationship between food and health, and particularly the gut and the brain, which varies with each individual. Dietary choices and patterns and the ongoing relationship between an individual and their food have a significant influence on growth, development and both prevention and management of various health conditions and chronic diseases.

Young people who live with disabilities often experience a greater risk of nutrition-related health concerns, due to challenges with food access, meal preparation and consumption, and sensory challenges with different colours, textures, smells and temperatures.

Australian society can be considered an obesogenic environment – a place where it is easy for people of any age to become overweight and develop other health conditions. Sugary, high-fat foods and snacks in appealing packaging are easily available almost everywhere and portion sizes tend to be larger than necessary.  Young people are most at risk of unhealthy food choices due to lack of nutrition education and the saturation of unhealthy food advertising in society.
